Get inspired

Read two amazing examples of students turning their dissertations into real-world solutions.
Peequal

Peequal is making waves as the UK’s first women’s urinal to create pee-equality in public hygiene facilities. It was founded by Amber Probyn and Hazel McShane, two graduates from the University of Bristol, to solve the problem of unnecessarily long queuing for women’s toilets.

The co-founders credit the idea of Peequal to a practical dissertation during their studies which inspired them to explore practical solutions to real-world problems.

Peequal reached the semi-finals of the Santander x Entrepreneurship Awards 2021 and has gone on review rave reviews at festivals across the UK.

FLO

Students Tara Priya Chandra and Susan Allen came up the idea of creating healthier, eco-friendlier menstrual products while studying at the London School of Economics. The idea became ‘FLO’, which now sells 100% cotton, organic, eco-friendly and BPA-free tampons for the mass market.

The consumer research involved in FLO became the basis for Tara’s Masters thesis for the Executive Global Masters in Management (EGMiM).

Tara was a beneficiary of the Graduate Entrepreneur Visa, allowing her to focus on FLO for two years following graduation, while FLO won the LSE Generate start-up competition in 2016.
